PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte and former President Fidel Ramos remain to have a "solid and respectful" relationship, even after the latter resigned as the country's special envoy to China, Malacañang said Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella confirmed that the Office of the Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea had already received Ramos' resignation letter.
In his resignation letter read by Abella, Ramos requested to be allowed to step down as the special envoy of the Philippines to China.
Ramos, however, affirmed his "full support" to the Duterte administration for the national interests of the Filipino people.
"The letter, which was submitted to the Office of the Executive Secretary, was itself civil and respectful," Abella said.
"Based on the statement, the President and former President FVR continue to have a solid and respectful relationship as we course a new phase in our evolution as a nation and Filipino society," he added.
In an interview with reporters in Davao City late Tuesday, Duterte said there was no tension between him and Ramos.
He even thanked the former President for assisting him in dealing with China.
"I'd like to thank him for helping me and being of the service to the nation even at his age," Duterte said. (Sunnex)
