A PALACE official branded Sunday as irresponsible a French article branding President Rodrigo Duterte as a "serial killer president."
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a radio interview that the report of France's "The Liberation" did not reflect the true picture of what has been happening in the Philippines.
"It’s irresponsible the way they have said it and the way they carelessly used these words and their media power to think the Philippines in such a way ‘no. The best way I can say it is, it’s irresponsible," he said.
He said the "best mirror" of what has been happening in the Philippines were the people who were affected by the illegal drugs.
The French newspaper's article was based on the reported rising number of drug suspects being killed in the government's war on the drug menace.
Contrary to Duterte's critics, Abella said, "isang nakikita natin sa response ng mga tao, they have a very high appreciation of what the President is doing and his stance."
With the high number of those allegedly involved in illegal drugs, he said, "drastic measures have to be taken for drastic situation."
Duterte has estimated that drug addicts in the country could reach up to four million.
While the President has a strong warning against those involved in illegal drugs, Abella said Duterte always reminds the law enforcers to implement the program the right way.
"We appreciate the President dahil lagi niyang sinasabi kahit na very colorful iyong language niya, pero in practice, everything has to be done with regularity," he said. (SDR/Sunnex)
