MALACAÑANG announced Thursday that the grand coronation of the 65th Miss Universe pageant on January 30, Monday, is a regular working day.
The announcement was made by the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
"Per [Office of the Executive Secretary], January 27 and 30 will still be a working day," a text from the Office of the President sent to reporters read.
Malacañang issued the statement following calls to announce January 30 as a special non-working holiday.
On Tuesday, Quezon City Representative Winston Castelo called on President Rodrigo Duterte to declare January 30 as holiday to allow Filipinos to witness the "once-in-a-year spectacle" hosted by the Philippines this year.
The coronation will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on January 30, 8 a.m.
Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, the third Filipina to win the title, will pass the crown on her successor.
Malacañang was also not keen on declaring January 27, Friday, as holiday to pave way for the celebration of Chinese New Year, which falls on January 28, Saturday. (VoxPop Philippines)
