MALACANANG on Tuesday ordered the suspension of all government work in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon due to inclement weather brought about by Tropical Depression Maring.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the suspension of work was made upon the recommendation of the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
"Upon the recommendation of the NDRRMC, the Office of the Executive Secretary has announced that work in government offices in Metro Manila, Region III (Central Luzon) and Calabarzon is hereby suspended," Abella said.
Following the order from Malacañang, the Supreme Court (SC) has also ordered the suspension of work in all courts in the three regions.
Work in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the Court of Tax Appeals and the Sandiganbayan are also suspended.
According to the 5 a.m. advisory of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Maring slightly intensified as it continued to move towards Quezon-Aurora area.
Maring was last spotted 135 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
It was forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph.
Storm signal number 1 was hoisted over Metro Manila Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Northern Quezon, including Polillo Island, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pangasinan, La Union and Aurora.
The weather bureau raised Orange rainfall warning in Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal and Camarines Norte, which means flooding in those areas remains a threat.
Yellow rainfall warning meanwhile has been raised over Quezon, Laguna and Batangas. Yellow warning means there could be flooding in low lying areas. (VoxPop Philippines)
