THE United Nations (UN) should follow the protocol if it wants to send a rapporteur to the Philippines to look into the alleged extrajudicial killings, a Palace official said Sunday.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar was replying on the call of High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein who urged the Duterte government to extend an invitation to the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions.
"Dapat ho dumaan ang United Nations sa tamang proseso, sa tamang protocol kung gusto po nilang magpakumbida ay huwag ho idaan sa media," he said over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
Al Hussein in his remarks during the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council in Switzerland has said that President Rodrigo Duterte's statements of scorn for international human rights law "display a striking lack of understanding of our human rights institutions and the principles which keep societies safe."
Duterte has slammed UN for its criticisms on the alleged extrajudicial killings involving suspected drug personalities.
"Empowering police forces to shoot to kill any individual whom they claim to suspect of drug crimes, with or without evidence, undermines justice," said Al Hussein. (Sunnex/SDR)
