SAN LUIS -- The Pampanga Mayors League (PML) have expressed support to the fourth district town of San Luis in Pampanga which has been severely affected by the bird flu outbreak and its resulting “chicken scare.”
PML president and Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab led mayors Darwin Manalansan of Floridablanca, Danilo Baylon of Candaba, Ross Gamboa of Sta. Ana, Peter Nucom of Apalit, Dante Torres of Guagua, Bon Alejandrino of Arayat and Nardo Velasco of Sasmuan in a visit to the town in a show of support to San Luis Mayor Venancio Macapagal and the townspeople.
The mayors ate chicken arroz caldo, fried duck and balut for brunch to show that local poultry produce here are safe for human consumption.
Pineda-Cayabyab told Macapagal that public fear in eating poultry products coming from the town will soon fade out and the public will go back to buying and consuming chicken and eggs.
She also urged the Department of Health and Department of Agriculture (DA) to help clear Pampanga from the misinformation that the whole province was stricken by bird flu, adding that businesses investing on poultry regardless of size have been adversely affected by the undue fear due to the bird flu scare.
"Kung ang DA ang nagdeklara ng outbreak sa Pampanga, sana ngayong naglift na ng ban, sila na rin an mag-deklara na clear ang mga bayan na wala naman talagang bird flu cases," Pineda-Cayabyab said.
She said PML is planning to submit a resolution to President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, August 28, during his visit to Pampanga.
