DAMAGE to crops caused by heavy rains and flooding brought by Typhoon Paolo in Negros Occidental last week has reached P21.50 million.
As of Tuesday, October 24, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported that the damage covers 981.19 hectares of farm lands, which affected 705 farmers in 36 barangays from five local government units (LGUs).
According to the report, the highest value of damage and production losses was in the rice sector with P21.476 million, affecting 697 farmers and 979.59 hectares followed by corn with P13,655; and vegetable, P13,500.
The report also showed that Valladolid incurred the highest crop damage with P13.574 million, affecting 274 farmers and 411 hectares in its 14 barangays.
It is followed by Bago City with P5.641 million worth of crop damage; Hinigaran, P1.776 million; Moises Padilla, P303,992; and Binalbagan, P179,500.
OPA continues with its field assessment and validation in the affected areas.
