JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said that the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) is looking into the allegations against Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista.
In an interview on Friday, Aguirre confirmed he had met the officials of the PCGG, the agency formerly headed by Bautista, regarding the allegations of Patricia Bautista, the Comelec chair's estranged wife, that her husband had amassed P1 billion ill-gotten wealth.
During the meeting, Aguirre said PCGG Chair Reynaldo Munsayac and Commissioners Rey Bulay and John Agbayani provided him documents said to be about possible ghost employees and "travel violations not in accordance with administrative procedure," during Bautista's tenure as PCGG chief in 2010.
"Meron kahina-hinala when he was PCGG but that was the assessment of the three commissioners. Hopefully, this would be a part of the report that will be submitted to us," Aguirre said.
Aguirre said the PCGG has the power to investigate like the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The NBI is now investigating the claim of Patricia Bautista that her husband has 35 bank accounts, condominium units and properties local and abroad that are not listed in his Statement of Assets Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
Aguirre said PCGG will release a progress report about its probe next week.
The issue between the Bautista spouses has reached Malacañang.
No less than President Rodrigo Duterte met Patricia and her husband and advised them to patch their issues in private.
Bautista denied all the allegations of his former wife, who is allegedly asking a P620 million settlement. (VoxPop Philippines)
