THE Philippine Councilors League (PCL) passed several measures covering concerns on the proposed implementation of the waste to energy technology, federalism, fight against illegal drugs, and the Martial Law in Mindanao.
PCL national president Luis Singson announced this in a press conference Tuesday, June 13, with national chairman Danilo Dayanghirang of Davao City, national executive vice president Benito Brizuela of Lucena City, national PRO Beethoven Bermejo of Catbalogan City, and Negros Occidental chapter president Miguel Alonzo of Kabankalan City.
The PCL will hold its two-day 2nd Quarterly National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting and 1st Series of Continuing Local Legislative Educational Program starting today at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City.
Singson said these are the four areas of concern they want to focus on as councilors.
He added that the garbage problem is hitting most local government units, citing violations of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
There will be a presentation of a European technology on solid waste management in their next meeting to be held in Davao, he said.
The PCL also passed a resolution on the adoption of federalism as a form of government in the Philippines.
Singson said this will decentralize the center of power in Manila adding that the resources of every region can now be utilized without the intervention of the national government.
“We go around the country to help inform the people about federalism,” he said.
Dayanghirang also said they passed a resolution supporting the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao necessary to address the armed conflict between the military and the Maute group still occurring in Marawi City.
The last resolution involved the fight against illegal drugs.
The PCL signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency that enables councilors to help in the reporting of those engaged in illegal drugs.
