A GREYHOUND operation at the Cebu City Jail led to the discovery of a cellular phone allegedly used by an inmate to communicate with big-time drug lords in the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
The makeshift cell of high-value inmate Archie Abellana was searched by the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
“His name cropped up during our latest anti-drug operations because our latest arrested person revealed that he was the one who supplied them with the drugs,” CCPO Director Joel Doria said.
Archie Abellana, who was caught last January, was named by people who were arrested recently in a buy-bust by the City Drug Enforcement Unit as the one who supplied them drugs.
Doria said they will send Abellana’s phone to the Anti-Cybercrime Unit to check if it contains contact numbers of NBP prisoners.
Doria said that Abellana, together with some of his cohorts, were in their drug diagram.
Also seized from Abellana were alleged medicines, a letter asking for groceries and drug sniffing paraphernalia with traces of shabu. Supt. Arnel Peralta, jail warden, said visitation rights for Abellana will be temporarily stopped.
“This is also a measure to cut his illegal drugs business,” Peralta said.
Last Wednesday evening, operatives from the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) conducted a drug bust on Englis V. Rama Ave., Barangay Guadalupe.
Police arrested Joselito “Titing” Abesia, 26, who had links with Abellana and his brother, Mark.
The Abellanas can dispose of 50 to 100 grams of shabu per week. Shabu with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P295,000 was seized from Abesia. (JOB)
