A WEEK after the improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the massage area of the Roxas Night Market in Davao City that killed 14 people, including one innocent child, and leaving 70 others injured, Dabawenyos have been on their feet and standing up as one.
Authorities have yet to establish the concrete motives of the perpetrators behind the evil act. The mastermind behind this attack just wanted to sow terror.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, a day after bombing incident, urged Dabawenyos not to be affected. Instead, she called everyone to be strong and rise again from the tragic incident.
The popular Roxas night market resumed operations the night after the incident.
Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, also urged everyone to be vigilant.
The mayor showed the spirit of a true leader by standing firm when others tremble in fear.
She announced three days after the bombing incident she suffered miscarriage, losing two of her triplets.
Despite the situation, she remained strong.
Blast survivors and their respective families were assured financial assistance from the City Government of Davao for the burial of the dead, hospitalization of the injured and the support needed by watchers of victims in public and private hospitals.
The City Council was also quick to respond to the request of Mayor Inday to pass a resolution, thus, they approved the release of P4.5 million during last Tuesday's session.
People trooped to the blast site to show support in various forms and encourage others to unite in fight against terrorism.
They also showed sympathy to the relatives and family of the victims who are calling for justice for their loved ones. As Dabawenyos move forward, they are reminded to be vigilant and set complacency behind as the government is doing its best to keep them safe and secure.
