WITH just a round left in the ongoing Piaya Network Broadcasting Corporation/6th Negros Closed Chess Championship, International Master (IM) Joel Pimentel of Bacolod City and Fide Master (FM) Sander Severino of Silay City are still even.
In Round 5, IM Pimentel ruled over Ellan Asuela in 88 moves and defeated Ted Ian Montoyo in Round 6 with 40 moves in Colle Systems opening.
FM Severino also downed Montoyo in 47 moves of London System in Round 5 and conquered P03 Ernie Abanco in Queen’s pawn opening in Round 6.
At press time, IM Pimentel took Abanco while Severino played National Master Rolando Andador for Round 7.
In case Pimentel and Severino end up even at the end of the final round, they will play the best-of-5 games with 10 minutes each. The first to win three games takes home prize. (HGD)
