THE piña fabric took center stage at President Rodrigo Duterte's second State of the Nation Address' (Sona) fashion department.
During the occasion held Monday at the House of Representatives, men and women of all ages opted to wear their piña-made clothing as everyone stick to keeping the event simple and less grandiose.
But even if many lawmakers, their spouses, and guests wore simple Filipiniana dresses and Barongs, the piña-made materials still brought the luxurious and fashionable appeal to the annual Sona.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri's wife, Audrey, wore a Joey Samson below-the-knee, pencil cut dress with oversized sleeves. Her attire was made of piña fabric from top to bottom and was accessorized with a custom-made neck piece.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano also wore a piña fabric top and moss green-colored silk skirt made by local designer Onin Pagsisihan.
Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe attended the Sona in an off-white beaded Paul Cabral creation while actress Heart Evangelista, wife of Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero, strut the red carpet in a Mindanao-inspired pants and blazer by Boom Sason.
Senator Loren Legarda and Senator Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara's wife Tootsy opted for vintage pieces.
Legarda wore an old blouse owned by her late mother and an old Maranao landap woven in the traditional inaul way. The female senator finished her whole outfit with shoes made in Marikina and a locally made bag.
Tootsy, on her part, could very well win the resourcefulness award, if there's any, as she pulled a 26-year-old outfit.
Angara's wife said she didn't get to prepare for the Sona and ended up wearing a Pitoy Moreno Filipiniana she first wore in 1991 during her junior prom.
"Ignore the fit as my 42-year-old body is definitely different from my 15-year-old self," she wrote in an Instagram post.
Aside from the women, male lawmakers and guests came in their best Barongs.
