THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is now interviewing the alleged assailants in Wednesday's riot inside the New Bilibid Prison's (NBP) maximum security compound that killed one high-profile inmate.
PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) director Roel Obusan said they have started interrogating the suspects.
"The focus of today's investigation will be for the assailants. And it will be quite a rigorous one," Obusan added.
He, however, refused to say how many suspects they are interrogating.
Obusan also said they already obtained the CCTV footage taken from the NBP's building 14.
"We got hold of the footage… However, we have to really assure that the chain of custody will not be broken. So we have to do it by means of documentation to preserve everything so it can stand scrutiny not only by the media but other investigators as well,” he said.
Earlier, PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa said he did not give any deadline for the CIDG to finish the investigation.
"Mukhang madali naman 'yun imbestigahan dahil nandun naman pati suspect hindi naman at large. Ang mga biktima nandoon buhay naman so makukuhanan ng statements ang mga biktima so hindi mahirap," he said.
Obusan said they are taking in consideration the different versions narrated by the inmates involved in the incident.
"They are considered valuable testimonial evidence that we have right now. But still, those testimonial evidence will be taken in relation with the physical evidence and all other testimonial evidence taken from other witnesses who are not party to the groups or to the cliques in the NBP," Obusan said.
