The investigating police task group dealing with the death of Melvin Sr. and Merriam Odicta seems to have no progress three days after the notorious killing of the couple.
This probe made by the police is to determine the real killers or the true motive of the death of the region’s top drug lord.
Similarly, regional police information officer, Superintendent Gilbert Gorero hinted a possible double cross on the couple who went to see PNP Chief Ronald de la Rosa at Camp Crame last August 25 when the top cop is in Bacolod and Iloilo City on August 25 to 26 and in Boracay Island on August 27.
The Odicta couple was gunned down at around 1:30 a.m., August 29, at the walkway going to the Caticlan jetty port entrance.
They have embarked from a roro vessel from Batangas port.
Gorero, in reiterating police innocence in the killing, said the couple was alleged to submit a matrix to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mike Sueno listing drug personalities not only in Iloilo but in the whole Visayas region.
But Odictas’ lawyer Gualberto Cataluna disclaimed the allegation and said there was no matrix submitted nor any document left with the DILG Secretary.
Tight police security was placed around the Odicta house in Barangay Malipayon and Barangay Tanza Esperanza where brother Noel Odicta is the punong barangay.
The police checkpoints were specifically requested by the Odicta family, Gorero said in anticipating the influx of drug personalities in the region and police officials and personnel.
A taxi driver of the Odictas who refused to be known said that their boss is the most generous person he had ever known and was considered as Santa Claus and Robin Hood in one.
Odicta is known to fund hospitalization of neighbors and workers and their children and they received gifts during Christmas and birthdays.
A shuttle van driver also said that perhaps there will be drastic changes in the illegal drug industry in Iloilo and will be diminished if not totally eradicated without their boss.
The driver hopefully wished that illegal drugs will stop flourishing anymore so they, the workers, could work peacefully. (LCP/Sunnex)
