THE City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) is preparing the charges against a high-value target who yielded P3.7 million worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in a drug bust at Barangay 33, Bacolod City on Tuesday.
Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, assistant team leader of CDEU, said Wednesday the charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs will be filed today against Jeffrey Virgel, 35, of Barangay 27, also a newly-identified drug personality.
On April 10, CDEU recovered from Virgel's possession 18 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 250 grams, and the P3,000 marked money. He tried to resist arrest but was cornered by the operatives.
Albaytar said Virgel, whom they've monitored for six months, gets his supplies of drugs from San Carlos City and distributes it to Barangays 2, 27, and Banago in Bacolod.
Virgel was previously arrested for drugs but was released after the arresting officer failed to attend court hearings when the latter was assigned to other areas.
Albaytar said they are studying if they will file administrative charges against the arresting officer for neglecting his duty in court hearings.
He said the suspect's father and brother were also previously arrested for drugs.
"They are making a business from the drug money," he added.
Albaytar also said that the suspect is a member of a drug group in the city and has lots of connections after he formed a core group of the inmates while he was in jail.
Virgel is detained at Police Station 6.
