THE policeman, who was charged for the killings of the father and brother of Negros Island Region top drug suspect Ricky Serenio, said he is planning to seek assistance from the Office of the President and Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters.
Senior Police Officer 1 Joshua Barile on Thursday, June 1, shared his belief that somebody, who is manipulating the witnesses, police and Serenio, is behind the charges filed against him.
He said he has prepared a letter to be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte and has arranged a meeting with PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa in Camp Crame to discuss the problem of Negros Occidental, which he claimed is now penetrated by a “manipulative person.”
Barile confirmed to VoxPop Bacolod on Monday that the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) filed two counts of murder against him for allegedly killing Wilfredo Serenio and Wilmar Serenio in separate incidents at Barangay Singcang-Airport.
“I want to ask the President to have a separate unit to conduct a proper investigation about the case because even the police intelligence community cannot be trusted anymore,” Barile said, adding that some policemen in the region are under the control of a certain public official, whom he refused to name.
He even told the Bacolod police, which filed the murder cases against him, to be happy with resolving the Serenio killings through what he called fabricated statements of witnesses.
“I hope they can sleep well at night and that their conscience is clear,” Barile said.
For his part, Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of BCPO, said Barile’s statements are considered to be a normal defense from the accusations against him.
“Let him face the witnesses and defend himself in court,” he added.
Wanky also said that Barile is entitled to his own belief as he stood firm that the police know their job.
Moreover, Barile said his life will be endangered after he surfaced, but he also wanted to clear his name from all the false accusations.
He added that while he was also tagged in the illegal drug trade, he has never met Ricky Serenio, who accused several policemen as drug protectors.
