UP AND coming athletes from the Summer Capital including nearby towns experienced world class training as Alaska Power Camp brings in its weeklong training teaching kids not only the basics but also the character of a true champion.
In line with Alaska’s advocacies, the Alaska Power Camps returned this week with basketball, volleyball and football clinics in Baguio and Benguet with notable coaches teaching kids the fundamentals of the three sports.
Open to children aged 3 to 18 for football and 5 to 18 for basketball, the Power Camps develop not just athletic skills, but the values of self-discipline, teamwork, hard work, and determination.
The Alaska Basketball Power Camp, held at the Philippine Military Jurado Hall specially designed by PBA legend and Alaska Aces assistant coach Jeffrey Cariaso kicked off June 5 and ends Sunday with an Alaska Basketball Cup, a tournament which aims to test and implement the skills learned by the participants.
Specific lessons in the basketball power camp include respecting the game and everybody involved, team work, sacrifice, responsibility, dedication, good sportsmanship and hard work.
The camp continues to teach the most important aspects of the game adding only innovations which will help participants improve their play which they have done for the past years.
Former De La Salle Lady Spiker Michelle Gumabao also lend her hand in the weeklong volleyball camp which opened on Monday attracting newbies from the city and Benguet at the University of Baguio gym.
The volleyball camp not only teaches skills but also the value of proper nutrition for the growth and development of the players with the safety and well-being of the players as top priority.
The volleyball power camp embodies Alaska’s philosophy that sports can instill the value of discipline, hard work, teamwork and determination among the girls.
Simultaneous with the basketball and volleyball camp is the football power camp which was designed by former Real Madrid player Tomas Lozano.
Through the power camp, Alaska helps the youth develop skills in team sports as well as the fundamental values that develop character and necessary attributes for success not just in sports but in everyday life. (Roderick Osis)
