Price of dressed chicken in Negros Occidental drops

AVERAGE prevailing market price of dressed chicken in Negros Occidental has decreased, a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed.

Based on this week's monitoring of the PVO, average price per kilogram of dressed chicken is P156.

The figure is P2.75 per kilogram lower than P158.75 last week, it added.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said that the reduction in price of dressed chicken is mainly attributed to its intra-provincial movement affected by intermittent rains in the past few days.

Decena pointed out that supply in other cities and municipalities, especially in the Sixth District, is low and the demand is also low.

“When both supply and demand are low, the price of the commodity will most likely drop,” he added.

Based on the PVO reports, markets in Valladolid town sell dressed chicken with the highest price of P175 per kilo.

The lowest is in San Carlos City, Calatrava, Toboso, Cadiz City and Manapla, at P145 per kilo.

Decena said prices in every city and municipality vary depending on the transport and handling cost of the commodity from the dressing plant to different selling points.

The PVO had earlier reported that prices of beef and pork in the province have increased.

Decena told VoxPop Bacolod that low supply accompanied by high demand is driving the prices of beef and pork in the province to increase.
