A PRIEST of the Diocese of Bacolod said the attempt to legalize same-sex marriage in the country prompts them anew to reiterate the church’s teaching on marriage.
Fr. Felix Pasquin, rector of San Sebastian Cathedral, said Monday that God himself is the author of marriage where it is his plan for the covenant to be followed.
“It is not a mere human institution subject to the vagaries of the time,” Pasquin said, stressing that “marriage in the plan of God is between man and woman.”
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who was in Bacolod City last week, said that the country needs to do something to manage its population.
It was neglected by the past administration, especially with the objection from the church on the reproductive healthcare, he added.
Alvarez had earlier said that his office is drafting a bill on same-sex marriage, as he quipped that it is a natural way to minimize population.
“I’m asking the church that if they can’t do something to help the government in addressing poverty, best thing they do is to keep quiet and let the government do its job,” he added.
Pasquin, however, appealed to the legislators that in crafting laws they must be guided by God’s eternal divine law.
“I trust the Speaker’s good sense,” Pasquin said, adding that “they should never contravene God’s teachings which will only result to man’s perdition.”
The priest further said that the very nature of married life is ordered to the procreation and education of the offspring, and it is in them that it finds its crowning glory.
