THE acting director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Negros Island Region (NIR) warned the police chiefs that they will be removed from their posts if they fail to stop the illegal gambling operations in their respective areas.
PRO-NIR Acting Director Renato Gumban said he directed police chiefs to pursue illegal gambling operators since March 1.
“Police chiefs of any police station with reports of having consistent operations in illegal gambling in their areas will be dealt accordingly,” Gumban said.
Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa declared a war against illegal gambling last February.
Gumban said they have identified three gambling financiers, including a suspected drug lord in the region but two of them already stopped their operations.
Superintendent Noel Polines, spokesperson of Bacolod City Police Office, said they conducted 66 operations that led to the apprehension of 168 persons.
Moreover, Gumban said he is willing to file libel charges against those who will also file charges against him for allegedly tagging him in illegal gambling.
Gumban said he is not protecting anyone or even into the said illegal activity.
He said what he is saying is the truth based on the accomplishments of the region against the illegal gambling operations.
