SOME 75 dependents of uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Cordillera region underwent skills development training program geared towards expanding productivity and self-reliance, and enhance their full and effective participation in economic activities thru entrepreneurship.
The first batch of beneficiaries is currently undergoing the training at King’s College of the Philippines in La Trinidad through Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation (JVOFI) by Embrace, the CSR Program of the PMFTC Inc.
The Skills Development Training made possible thru public-private partnerships, is an emerging PRO-Cordillera best practice aligned with the goals and objectives of the Peace and order Agenda for Transformation and the Rule of Law (Patrol) Plan 2030 roadmap of the Philippine National Police (PNP). It is set to be replicated in other PROs nationwide.
The training consists of Basic Cookery with 25 participants, Electrical Installation and Maintenance with 23 participants, and Automotive Servicing with 27 participants which officially opened during the PRO-Cordillera Anniversary celebrations on October 6 led by PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa witnessing the signing of the Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA).
Under the MOA, the JVOFI will handle the training expenses, King’s College of the Philippines will provide the trainers, module/s, training venue and equipment, while PRO-Cordillera will provide the attendees to the project.
Upon completion of the course, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) will conduct an assessment to determine if the students can meet the standards expected in the workplace, and check on their levels of productivity, quality and global competitiveness.
After the assessment, Tesda is set to award certificates of completion to beneficiaries who will pass the competency standards.
PRO-Cordillera director Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona in coordination with JVOFI represented by former Baguio Cit Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr., the incumbent chairman of the PRO-Cordillera Regional Advisory Council, and King’s College of the Philippines represented by Higinio Abella Nosa, initiated the opening of the first batch of skills development training.
