A MUSLIM group enthroned three new sultans but were met with protests from fellow brothers.
Sultan Mohammad Amin Baab Torres of the Sultan Torres Foundation led the enthronement of Sultans Andres Roberto Muran as Sultan Cabugatan, Retired Colonel Omar Adigue as Sultan Makapundug and Akjer Hadji Hakim as Sultan Ma-Amor.
Sultan Ali Andrada, of the 16 Royal Sultans of Mindanao, announced the proclamation of the three during the enthronement and Guro Naguib, member of Lanao Royal Sultanate, administered the oath and witnessed by hundreds.
However, the enthronement was met with protests by fellow Muslims with Yasser Guro, head of the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos protesting the enthronement of the three sultans.
In a letter to Mayor Maurico Domogan and Baguio City Police Director Ramil Saculles, Guro said “the sultanate in Baguio as acclaimed by some opportunistic Muslim leaders is a cruel hoax, misleading the locality of Baguio and its people. There is no such thing as a sultanate in the city and therefore the sultanship of the Bobby Torres who was allegedly involved in to illegal activities which adversely affect his good moral character is fake, and an insult to the paramount sultanship in Muslim Mindanao.”
Guro said the sultanate was only established in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao provinces and its succession to power is based on genealogy in accordance to birthright.
He explained further the sultanate in Muslim Mindanao is observed and practiced only in Muslim provinces like Sulu, Maguindanao, Basilan, Tawi Tawi and Lanao del Sur where Muslims are dominant and where sultanate itself was established historically.
Guro, in his letter, is asking Domogan to look into the matter of his complaint.
