The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental will distribute about P12.6 million worth of various projects to recipients in the province during the opening of the Livestock and Poultry Fair at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City on Saturday, April 22.
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena will lead the ceremonial turnover of the P2.4-million worth of free-range chicken multiplier farms to the Department of Education (DepEd)-Sagay City, and local government units (LGUs) of Manapla, Himamaylan, Hinoba-an and Hinigaran.
The components of each multiplier farm project include one unit of free-range chicken house, one unit of poultry incubator, 150 heads of breeder chicks, and one brooder cage.
The PVO will also distribute pekin duck multiplier farm projects totaling to P2.7 million to LGUs of Cadiz, Himamaylan, Pontevedra, Cauayan, San Enrique, and Isabela.
The facility includes one unit of pekin duck house, one unit of poultry incubator, 100 heads of pekin duckling, and a brooder cage.
Also, P2.5 million worth of bull house project will be turned over to DepEd-Sagay City, and LGUs of Escalante, Toboso and Hinoba-an. They will each receive a unit of bull house and one head of bull.
These animal multiplier farm and bull house projects, funded through the province’s 20 percent Development Fund in 2016, will be fully implemented this year.
The P5 million worth of animal rescue center will be given to LGUs of Hinoba-an and Salvador Benedicto. The project is under the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund.
Decena said the provision of these projects manifests the strong support of the provincial government to LGUs and their respective farmer-raisers who are vital partners in the development of local livestock and poultry industry.
“The annual livestock and poultry fair has been providing boost to local animal raisers, particularly in promoting their products to thousands of visitors during the Panaad sa Negros Festival,” he added.
Aside from the distribution of projects, the activity will also be highlighted by the parade of lechon dubbed “Lechonaad” and boodle fight.
For this year, at least 84 lechons will be showcased by more than 30 hog raisers associations in Negros Occidental, which is the country’s top producer of backyard swine.
