FORMER Negros Occidental Fifth District Board Member Melvin Lim Ibañez Tuesday said the quarry operator facing charges for allegedly using fake permits to transport sand and gravel in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City is just his namesake.
Melvin Gemotea Ibañez is facing 3,049 counts of falsification of public documents.
“It's not me. But I recall that he was introduced to me and Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. in 2013. That was the time that we have seen each other. I was surprised when I received so many calls from friends and even banks yesterday, asking me if I was the quarry operator?” the former Capitol official said in a telephone interview.
“I said, no. I’m a doctor and former board member of the Fifth District,” he added.
Each of Melvin Gemotea Ibañez’s violation corresponds to a fine of 15,000 each or a total penalty of P45,735,000.
The Provincial Board has authorized Provincial Treasurer Nilda Generoso to file the appropriate charges against the quarry operator.
