A RETIRED soldier was shot to death by three suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) at Barangay Lumapao, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental Tuesday morning, June 20.
Chief Inspector Wilfredo Alarcon Jr., city police chief, identified the fatality as Ronnie Montejo, 59, of Sitio Samaka, Barangay Mabigo.
He was last assigned with the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion intelligence branch.
Montejo was driving his motorcycle on the way to his farm when the assailants fired at him. He succumbed to three gunshot wounds.
He was shot at close range, Alarcon said.
Alarcon said the gunmen shouted "Mga NPA mi, ayaw mu panghilabot" (We are NPA, do not intervene) before they escaped on board a motorcycle.
Recovered from the scene were several fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol.
