AN AMERICAN was arrested by police following an alleged drug bust inside an inn at Capistrano Street, Cagayan de Oro City, Thursday afternoon, December 15.
Chief Inspector Maricris Mulat, Police Station 1 chief, identified the suspect as 63-year-old Dong Young Kim, a retired US Army soldier who has been staying at Hotel Koresco in Lumbia village, this city.
"Korean siya pero American citizen and retired US Army," Mulat said.
Mulat said the retired American soldier supposedly sells illegal drugs at the King Williams Inn and in other hotels in the city.
He said Kim may be categorized as a high value target.
Police operatives recovered one sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" weighing 1.2 grams valued at P9,000 and the drug bust money worth P2,000.
Seized items were brought to the Philippine National Police crime laboratory while the suspect was detained at the Maharlika Detention Center and will be charged with violating Section 5 (selling) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165).
"We are very serious of our campaign against illegal drugs to the extent that even foreigners who engage in illegal drug trade are subjects of our operations," Mulat said. (Alwen Saliring)
