SUPERINTENDENT Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), said Tuesday that he will ask Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the City Council to require traffic enforcers to undergo retraining and drug test.
The move came after a traffic enforcer allegedly attempted to end his life at the bridge near the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan Monday morning, April 24.
Acebuche identified the victim as Miguel Biñas, a job order casual, and resident of Barangay Bata.
He said that witnesses saw the victim, who was wearing traffic uniform, jump off the bridge.
The victim sustained wounds in his right leg and forehead. He was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Acebuche said the victim, who is now in stable condition, refused to talk even to his family.
He said Biñas was on duty from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
“After this incident, I will require my personnel to undergo retraining, physical, mental, and drug tests. Although it’s an isolated case,” Acebuche added.
The BTAO offered medical and financial assistance to the victim, and is conducting further investigation, he added.
BTAO has a total of 430 enforcers, and 60 were deployed at Panaad Park for the duration of the 24th Panaad Sa Negros Festival.
