FORMER senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. has sent chocolates to Senator Leila de Lima, his fellow inmate in the Philippine National Police Custodial Center, said Revilla's wife, Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado.
Aside from the sweets, Mercado revealed that her husband also sent a letter to the senator.
"All I can say, Senator Bong sent her chocolates with a note. Mabait ang asawa ko. 'Yun lang ang masasabi ko. He has a good heart," Mercado said.
Revilla is held at the PNP national headquarters over plunder charges, while De Lima is detained over drug-related charges.
Mercado said the two have not seen each other yet.
The Bacoor mayor did not know what were the exact words written on the letter but she knows Revilla wishes De Lima well.
Mercado said that she is also praying for the senator.
"I'm really praying for her kasi she's alone in her section. At least, si Senator Bong at si Senator Jinggoy [Estrada], magkasama. She's alone. I don't know if she has family. I don't know if she has children. So, I'm really praying for her," Mercado said in a PEP.ph interview.
The former actress added De Lima is welcome to join their regular prayer service inside the PNP Custodial Center if she wants to.
She also said that anybody is welcome to visit her husband and this could be an opportunity for Revilla and De Lima to finally see each other.
"Nothing is impossible with God. It might be an opportunity na magkaroon ng friendship ang mga tao na nandoon, at hindi imposible yun. Hindi ko nakitaan ng maling kaganapan dun kung mangyayari mang ganun," she said.
Revilla faces plunder charges in connection with his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam. He was brought in to the PNP facility last June 2014, while De Lima was still Justice Secretary.
De Lima, on her part, surrendered to authorities and was detained in the PNP Custodial Center last February 24 over drug charges. (VoxPop Philippines)
