FIVE highway roads in the Cordillera were closed to traffic following the continuous onslaught of monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon Gorio.
The Department of Public Works and Highways in the region reported the Abra-Kalinga Road and the Abra Cervantes Road were closed to traffic due to several landslides in the area.
Other road networks in the Cordillera deemed not passable include the Benguet-Vizcaya Road, Acop-Kapangan-Kibungan-Bakun Road, and the Junction Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road.
Minor landslides were also reported along KM 14, Sto. Tomas Road, Tuba, Benguet, Adwagan, Baguio-Nueva Vizcaya Road, Bokod, Benguet and Sadsadan, Bauko, Mt. Province.
The regional office of the DPWH urged the public to use Marcos Highway and other safer routes to and from Baguio City although Kennon Road is on an open-close situation.
The National Power Corporation–Binga Flood Forecasting and Warning System Dam Office, meanwhile, warned communities along the affected water systems for possible flashfloods after the dam’s gate 3 was opened at 0.5 meters discharge of 63 cubic centimeters of water. (Roderick Osis)
