AFTER 14 hours, a suspected robber-detainee of Police Station 7, who escaped from the station’s custodial facility over the weekend, was arrested at Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Charles Gever, head of Police Station 7, identified the suspect as Alvin Martinez also known as “Spiderman,” 20, of Bangga Riles, Purok Maanyag 2, Barangay Alijis. He was a member of a notorious robbery group in Negros Occidental.
Martinez escaped from detention past midnight by cutting the cell’s steel rods using a hacksaw blade.
Gever said the jail officer and even Martinez’s two co-detainees failed to notice what Martinez’s was doing since it was raining.
Martinez was arrested in a manhunt operation around 5 p.m. on Sunday while he was having a drinking session at his friend’s house.
Gever said Martinez tried to escape again, and when he was cornered, he yielded a bladed weapon.
Martinez is detained at another facility of the police station and is closely being guarded.
Meanwhile, Gever said he directed the policemen on duty to explain the incident within 24 hours.
Last January 2, Martinez was arrested at Barangay Alijis after he was allegedly involved in an indiscriminate firing on New Year's Day.
