San Fernando, San Simon set firecracker zones

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - With the continuing goal of safely welcoming New Year in the province, police personnel in the City of San Fernando and San Simon town yesterday set areas where use and selling of firecrackers will be allowed.

City's police chief Roland Agohob said that they designated two firecracker zones -- one in Salilungan compound along Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay San Juan, and the other in front of Moderno Food Park along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Telabastagan.

Superintendent Agohob said that the local police will strictly implement President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 28 which bans the use of loud and dangerous firecrackers and confine its use to “community fireworks display only.”

Those who will be lighting illegal fireworks such as piccolo, super lolo, whistlebomb, goodbye Earth, and any pyrotechnic devices that contain 1.3 grams of gun powder, and those using sulfur or phosphorus mixed with chlorates might face legal charges, Agohob added.

Meanwhile, San Simon town also identified Barangay San Juan as the lone firecracker zone in the municipality where residents can use legal fireworks if they choose to celebrate New Year in a traditional way.

The three newly identified firecracker zones added up to 45 places in Pampanga, along with the other 574 areas in Central Luzon released by the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon on Wednesday.

PRO-Central Luzon Director Chief Superintendent Armando Corpus earlier asked the cooperation of the public for a safe and peaceful celebration of New Year and the rest of the holiday season.

"We want everyone to have a safe and happy New Year, and if you choose to use fireworks, make sure that you are not lighting illegal firecrackers because you can be arrested. Also, make sure that children should not discharge fireworks. Have something to extinguish them with in case something gets out of hand. And be careful combining alcohol and fireworks,” Corpus said.
