SAN SIMON -- The local government unit (LGU) of San Simon led by Mayor Leonora Wong distributed the salaries of Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries on Tuesday, June 6, at the municipal covered court here.
SPES is a program under the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in coordination with the LGU that helps students who are having financial difficulties pursue their education by encouraging them to have summer jobs.
rIn line with this, 100 SPES beneficiaries received P4,135 from the LGU and P2,757 in vouchers given by Dole after completing their 20-day employment in the municipality last April 24 to May 22.
Students were designated in different departments of the municipality to perform tasks that include encoding and clerical operations.
Wong told the beneficiaries that SPES is a program that is beneficial to the students for they are being familiarized with the responsibilities of a public servant.
“Discipline is one of the best virtues ng isang tao.
According to some SPES beneficiaries, their experiences during their summer job served as pathway to learn a lot and they were able to develop discipline, unity and friendship with others. (John Albert David/Bulacan State University intern)
