Sasa Wharf closed for Ironman 70.3

PRIVATELY-OWNED boats that usually pick up passengers at Sasa Wharf will be allowed to temporarily pick up passengers at Sta. Ana pier on the day of the Ironman 70.3 triathlon this coming March 25.

Davao City Sports and Development Division Head of Davao City Michael Denton Aportadera said since the passenger boats or barges will not be allowed to operate at Sasa Wharf until 1 pm on March 25, Sunday, those who usually ride public vessels can go to Santa Ana pier instead as it is temporarily open.

"The Santa Ana pier will be open for those who usually take ride from Sasa Wharf to Samal," he said.

Aportadera said they will be providing advisories, provided by the City Transportation and Traffic Management office, to make sure that the public will be getting the information that there are revisions on that day for the normal flow of traffic.

Traffic advisories are being put up now in areas which will be closed in Tagum City, Carmen and Panabo City.

For Tagum City, Carmen and Panabo city, the affected road is the Daang Maharlika Highway. Both directions will be closed from 3 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., southbound direction will be opened for two-way traffic while the northbound direction remains closed until 12:30 p.m.

In Davao City the affected roads will be from corner JP Laurel/ F. Torres to Lasang. All roads connecting the affected closure will be temporarily closed or "No Entry".

At 3 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., corner JP Laurel/ F. Torres to Alcantara northbound direction will be closed. Both directions will also be closed from Alcantara to Robinsons Tagum at 3 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. By 1:30 a.m., southbound direction will be opened for traffic while northbound direction remains closed from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. At exactly 12:30 p.m., Daang Maharlika Highway (from Tagum City to Alcantara) both directions will be opened for traffic all the way to JP Laurel Ave. southbound direction only.

During the run course, the affected road is JP Laurel (northbound lanes) from Alcantara to corner F. Torres St., at 3:30am to 3:30pm. All roads connecting the affected closure will be temporarily closed or "No Entry".

He said that simulation exercises were already at the areas of convergence leading to Azuela.

He said that those who have appointments during that day that will require travelling from Tagum to Davao and vice versa may use alternate routes

Aside from that, the City Government of Davao will deploy a total of six buses to bring the teachers who will take licensure exam on R. Castillo Street on the same day.

He said that two buses will be deployed in Tagum and Carmen, while one bus will be deployed in Panabo City.

"Part of R. Castillo will be used for parking of the participants, you should not worry because the buses will be stationed in Tagum, Carmen and Panabo, to wait for those who will take the exams. All the buses will leave at 3 a.m. going to Davao, so their exams will not be delayed," he said.
