Sayson given 15 days to submit more papers

FORMER Bacolod City vice mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson was given 15 days by the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) to submit additional papers to establish facts on his electoral protest against Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya.

Sayson lost to Gasataya in the May 2016 elections.

The HRET gave the directive after the preliminary conference held on Tuesday.

Counsel Eduardo Padios, who represents Sayson, said Gasataya through his lawyers Juvy Dioso and Karol Joseph Tiu filed a motion to dismiss the electoral protest on the ground of lack of course of action because there is no election violation complaint and also no complaint on the results of the vote counting machines.

“It’s a usual defense. We filed the protest after the manual audit done by Comelec showed that in three precincts, I got plus nine votes. Our point also is the 27,000 votes that were not counted,” Sayso added.

Padios said they expect the HRET to proceed with the revision of ballots. (TDE)
