THE Supreme Court (SC) has asked Senator Leila De Lima to comment on the disbarment case filed against her.
The SC, in its en banc session on Tuesday, directed De Lima to file–within 10 days from notice of the court's resolution–her answer to the complaint-affidavit filed by lawyer Fernando Perito
The SC, however, failed to disclose other details on the case, including the laws allegedly violated by the senator.
News archives indicate that this is the fourth disbarment case filed against De Lima ever since she became a government official.
The most recent administrative charges against her was filed by the Volunteers Against Crime on Corruption (VACC) on November 28. The case is in relation to her alleged illicit affair with her former close-in security aide, Ronnie Dayan.
In the 46-page complaint affidavit, the VACC said de Lima's alleged affair with Dayan "demonstrates her lack of moral character" to be qualified for the responsibilities and duties imposed on lawyers.
Perito is the same lawyer who asked the SC to dismiss Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in 2011 for repeatedly punching a trial court sheriff during the demolition of informal settlers' houses in Agdao District. (Sunnex)
