HUNDREDS of Dabawenyos trooped to People’s Park in Davao City last October 22 to take part in the Alaskamazing Mom 2016, Davao leg.
As early as 6:00 a.m., excited faces of the participants can be seen on the venue as the event was organized to give credits to our beloved moms.
"It's a day na we recognize our Nanay, and showcased kung ano yung kaya nilang gawin…na they can also be a part of a beauty pageant," Weena Pineda, Marketing Manager of Alaska, said.
It was in 2003 when the idea of Ginang Alaska was launched.
The competition aims to empower mothers from different parts of the country where they can show their talents, skills and other abilities.
"From nine cities na parang Santa-Cruzan type, nakita namin na nag-evolve siya towards a beauty pageant, so nawala yung essence of Ginang Alaska. We reformat it this year and [it is the] first time we used Alaskamazing Moms," Raymund Fruto added, Alaska Brand Manager.
From covering nine cities before, the company now covers 30 main cities in the country to just to look for the next beauty queen mothers who deserve to be given the citation.
"We wanted to look for moms that are community-minded, strong, passionate, caring not just sa family pero pati na rin sa community," Pineda quipped.
The competition is open to Moms between 21 to 35 years old who are legally married (not separated) with at least one child, physically fit, with good moral standing in the community and have culinary skills and talent and currently involved in any community building project.
Fifteen mothers from different barangays in Davao City made it to finals list.
The contestants’ didn’t only show their beauties and wit but they have also competed on how to prepare a healthy meal for their family thru the Breakfast Cooking Showdown.
The Alaskamazing contestants were also judge based on their talents thru Galing ng Pamilya ng Ginang - Talent Showdown, in which they will perform with their family.
Three representatives from Alaska and other guests served as judges during the competition.
After tallying the scores, judges then named the winners.
The 32-year-old Conchiga Camporedondo was the second runner up, Meriam Perez from Sasa was the first runner-up and crowned as Alaskamazing Mom of Davao was Ailene Caracol, 28 years old who is from Cabantian in Buhangin District.
The winners received cash prizes and other gift items from the organizers.
Aside from the beauty pageant competition, hundreds of audiences also had a great time sweating out during the Zumba session which was followed by a Community Breakfast where everybody had a hearty-champorado meal.
"For the past 12 years naka-produce din tayo ng mga empowered Ginang, and we will continue to look for more Alaskamazing Moms," Fruto said.
After Davao City, the team will visit other places here in Davao region to search for more Alaskamazing mom contestants.
They will soon visit Digos on November 11-12, Panabo City on November 18-19 and Tagum City on November 26-27.
"We are glad kasi the event became a bonding moment ng pamilya. It brings family togetherness. Isa pa, not the usual yung participants natin because they are not on their gowns, instead naka-sneakers sila," Pineda added.
