SILAY City Mayor Mark Golez on Monday, June 12, said Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito has allocated P5 million for the rehabilitation of Silay City Public Market.
“The P5 million was already included in the 2017 budget through the efforts of Senator Ejercito. The senator responded after the Silay City Council passed a resolution upon my endorsement requesting the senator to look for funds for the rehabilitation of the public market,” Golez said.
The mayor said Ejercito also suggested the rehabilitation of the fountain at the Silay public plaza after he noticed during the parade that it is already dilapidated, adding that the rehabilitation of the fountain would be good for tourism.
“The senator pledged to look for funds for the project either through the Department of Tourism or the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority. The city will allocate a counterpart fund,” Golez said.
Ejercito and his mother, San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez, who was born in Silay, were among the Silay Achievers who were honored during the 60th Charter Day Anniversary rites at the Silay City Civic Center on Monday.
The grandfather of Gomez, who practiced Medicine in Silay, was also an adopted son of the city.
The mayor of Silay when it became a city in 1957 was Romulo Golez, cousin of Mayor Mark Golez’s grandfather.
“After 60 years, here I am now another Golez sitting as the mayor,” the Silay mayor said.
Ejercito, chairman of the Senate committee on health, also conducted an ocular inspection and assessment of the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay.
Doctor Girlie Pinongan, hospital chief, said she submitted to the senator several requests for hospital equipment.
