THE Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) salvaged three silver medals and three bronzes at the close of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa Taekwondo Competition at the Belison Municipal Gym in Antique over the weekend.
Kristine Desiree Gascon (elementary girls over 160-168 centimeter category) of Digos City, Noel Andrew Cadano (elementary boys over 136-144 cm category) and Christian Niel Arches (secondary boys over 55kg lightweight category) of Davao City won silvers in their respective kyorugi event.
Jodie Nabor (secondary girls category), Rhiane Chardae Salise (secondary girls over 52kg welter weight category) and Johnson Lloyd Rosario (secondary boys light middle weight category), meanwhile, copped Kyorugi bronzes.
Arturo Lalican Jr., in a Facebook chat with VoxPop Davao, said the athletes were able to perform well but still need more exposure.
"Medyo hirap kami sa pag-adjust lalo na sa eliminations palang kasi regular armor ang ginagamit namin kaya may mga techniques kami na hindi nagagamit sa electronic gear. Manual parin yung ginagamit natin kaya pag dating sa big events talagang naninibago yung mga bata," Lalican said, hoping that they will be soon provided by electronic gadgets to keep pace with powerhouse regions.
The players, according to him, fought very hard despite being pitted against some national team members.
