TEAMS from Barangay Singcang-Airport and Villamonte took Game 1 in their respective matches in the best-of-3 semi-finals of the first Congressman Greg Gasataya Basketball Tournament held at the STI West Negros University Gymnasium in Bacolod City.
Singcang survived Banago, 96-91 as Villamonte escaped Sum-ag, 96-95 on Sunday, May 21.
Last week, Bacolod Tay Tung High School defeated University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, 56-53 to take home the 12 and Under division title.
Gasataya said lots of players with potentials from the grassroots are given the opportunity to showcase their talents to possibly get educational scholarship grants from various schools.
“We want to provide our players the venue for them to excel. We even provided necessary assistance to all participating teams and a good playing venue because we want to honor this sport,” he added.
STI West Negros University pledged to grant a scholarship to the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
