SITEL Philippines Corporation, a business process outsourcing (BPO) company, debunked the allegations of irregularities in its operations by its employees.
In a statement, Sitel said the company remains to be firmly committed to complying with Philippine labor laws as it continue to grow business in Baguio and expand footprint in other regional locations in the country.
Christine Matriano, senior director-partner communications of Sitel, said “the information given by your source stating ‘1,000 Baguio employees are being displaced due to the redeployment program’ is factually inaccurate and incorrect.”
Complaints were raised when Sitel agent Vicente Toca III, part of the newly formed Sitel Philippines Baguio Association of Rank and File Workers sought the help of concerned groups and the City Council over the “re deployment program” of the company, which they described as inhuman and has demoted regular employees to virtually floating status.
“The fact is, our Baguio workforce increased by 21 percent from May 2016 to May 2017. In March, this year, we inaugurated a multi-million dollar investment in the SM Baguio Cyber facility showing our continued effort to help generate employment in the city,” Matriano said.
Matriano with Mikey dela Peña, Sitel vice president for operations went to VoxPop to clarify allegations of employees.
Dela Peña said Toca remains to be a regular employee of the company.
Mitriano said she cannot divulge the details of the redeployment program and how many are affected bound by company policy.
“Sitel Philippines continues to see strong demand for our services from our clients and prospective clients. As a course of business, Sitel moves work between locations in the Philippines, and from global locations to the Philippines. We do this for seasonal ramps when demand for our services is greater; when our client business strategy changes; and during global economic shifts. We cannot comment on specifics due to our client confidentiality agreement,” Matriano said.
Department of Labor and Employment-Cordillera Director Exequiel Ronie Guzman with Philippine Economic Zone Authority administrator Rene Mipa said there have been no formal complaints aired to their offices regarding the re-deployment of the employees.
Both Guzman and Mipa urged the employees to come forward and have their grievances aired.
