SM CITY Bacolod has denied the warning of a bomb attack in their mall.
A message, which circulated in social media site Facebook, said that terror group Abu Sayyaf will bomb the mall. The message also urged the public not to visit the mall for their safety.
The message was supposedly sent by an employee of the mall.
May Castro, SM City Bacolod public relations manager, denied that the mall issued the warning and that it came from any of its employees.
She said the management has already asked the city police to verify the source of the information.
Moreover, security at the mall had been intensified following the explosion in Davao City last week, which killed 14 people and injured 70 others.
Castro said the police had met with the mall management after the Davao bombing.
Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. had earlier called on the public to stay vigilant and be alert of their surroundings following the online reports that Bacolod City will be targeted next by a terror attack.
Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office, dismissed the rumors that the city will be targeted next.
However, he advised the public to remain vigilant and report unusual activities or suspicious people to the authorities. (MPE)
