SAN SIMON – The management of Melter’s Steel Corporation on Wednesday filed a letter to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Central Luzon’s Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) seeking for the immediate lifting of the cease and desist order (CDO) served by the agency.
The letter directed to EMB-Central Luzon Director Lormelyn Claudiowas filed a day after the EMB served the CDO to two smelting plants namely Melter’s Steel Corporation and Wan Chiong Steel Corporation on June 20.
The management of Melter’s Steel Corporation refuted part of the directive which said that the smelting plant’s operation still causes air pollution to the immediate vicinity despite the recent installation of dust collector intended for the suction hoods connected to the roof of the building.
In the letter, the management said that aside from the dust collector, they have also properly installed and currently operating other anti-pollution devices such as closed roofing ventilator and has also replaced the filter bags in order to meet the emission standards of the DENR.
“We believe that these actions already met the DENR emission standards since there is no smoke coming out of our building now,” the management said in the letter.
It added that the smelting plant is ready to undergo air pollution test conducted by accredited third party stack testing firm to prove its compliance with the environmental standards.
“We are certain that the results will show our compliance to the emission standards. And in the event that it will not be favorable, we will surely comply with whatever corrective measures that must be done,” the management said.
As of now, the smelting plant suspended its operations as part of its coordination with the DENR and the local government.
