THE Southern Philippines College (SPC) emerged the 2017 Vivo National Collegiate Championship (NCC) 3x3 Mindanao Leg champions after beating Southern City College (SCC) of Zamboanga City, 46-44, in the finals that was held last Saturday at the Davao City Recreation Center.
SPC is fresh from claiming the first-runner up honor in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Cagayan de Oro finals and although it has lost in its bid to win against Xavier University (XU) last November 11, their current feat earned them an all-expense-paid trip to Manila for the National Finals set in February next year.
Jespher John Egan scored game-high 26 points including making 5-of-7 from two-point zone, while sinking all 10 of his foul shot to lead SPC to the win.
Emmanuel Akut and Rudjud Daga combined for 20 points.
Christian Pagaran came out scoreless in the finals but his semifinals effort towed SPC to a 50-29 win over JH Cerilles State College of Pagadian City.
The CDO-based team also unveiled their artilleries against the Davao City-based San Pedro College 51-41, in the quarterfinals.
SPC earlier defeated JH Cerilles College of Pagadian City 50-34, Jose Maria College 50-39, Agro Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) 51-20, and Philippine Women's College 50-39, respectively.
Meantime, the championship game between the Holy Cross of Davao College and Holy Trinity College of General Santos was still being played as of this writing.
