CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) were oriented by officials of the Pampanga Provincial Government the other day.
Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda led the orientation of the students with board members Fritzie Dizon and Rosve Henson.
The event was also the signing of the contracts of the students along with their parents.
Vice-Governor Pineda assured parents that the students will be assigned near their barangays for their safety.
He also added that the Provincial Government is all out in supporting them to have early work experience and skills for future employment after graduation.
The SPES is a joint undertaking of the local government and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), whose objective is to provide students with the opportunity to earn and learn during their free summer months, thereby encouraging and supporting their educational pursuits.
The daily wage rate of SPES beneficiaries has been set at P296. The local government will shoulder 60 percent of the salary while the Dole the remaining 40 percent.
More than 1,900 undergraduates joined the orientation at Bren Guiao Convention Center, for social and office work for a maximum of 18 days, as stipulated in their contracts.
According to Provincial Employment and Services Office (Peso) Chief Luningning Vergara, SPES is an excellent training ground for the students to become responsible Kapampangans.
Hanna Pamela Escordial, has been a SPES beneficiary for the past 3 years, expressed her overwhelming gratitude to be among the first batch of SPES beneficiaries for this year.
“The SPES program has helped me a lot. It helped me boost my self-confidence and developed my communication skills. The money I earned during the SPES program helped me sustained my education. That’s why I’m very thankful to the provincial government,” she said.
