Spurs survive vs improved Pistons

Published on

AFTER a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder the night before, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Detroit Pistons despite having 17 turnovers, 96-93.

The Detroit Pistons, who are one of the best teams in the NBA eastern conference, came to San Antonio looking to steal a game from the Spurs.

It was a close game through out with Detroit leading mostly with leads as big as nine points. This was because of the defense the Pistons displayed causing the Spurs to turn-over the ball 17 times and denying the Spurs Lamar Aldridge the whole time.

But the Pistons never got the lead to double digits because the Spurs used a couple of small runs to trim down the lead despite their star points guard, Reggie Jackson, scoring 20 of his 27 points in the first half.

Another key takeaway from the Spurs this game was their three-point shooting which they made 14 three's. The Spurs also used their brilliant ball passing and had 30 assists compared to Pistons' 15.

Ultimately, the Spurs got the lead in the game when Rudy Gay, who scored 12 points and dominated the boards with 10 rebounds, when he hit an and-one shot making the three point opportunity that got them 88-86 over the Pistons.

The Pistons had the chance to win the game by the closing seconds as they were only down by one, 94-93, when Rudy Gay missed a three pointer with 5 seconds left.

But luck was not with the Pistons.

Tobias Harris of the Detroit Pistons committed a foul on Lamarcus Aldridge who sinked in 2 free throws pushing the lead to three points.

In the next play, Rudy Gay blocked the three-point shot attempt by Tobias Harris giving the Spurs their 16th win of the season and handing the Pistons their 9th loss.

Lamarcus Aldridge led the Spurs with 17 points and 10 rebounds alongside Pau Gasol who also had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Reggie Jackson scored the game high with his 27 points and was helped by Tobias Harris' 15 in the loss. (USC AB Communications Intern Frankl Glarino)
