STI WNU bags Nopsscea junior basketball crown

STI West Negros University (STI WNU) finally put an end to Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s (BTTHS) domination of junior basketball in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (Nopsscea).

The Junior Mustangs ruled the 79-77 cliffhanger held at STI WNU gym in Bacolod City Saturday.

The Junior Mustangs almost squandered its domination in the first half as the Thunderbolts staged a rally in the third. It was a battle of runs, ties and lead changes after that.

With less than 15 seconds left, Tay Tung had a chance but a missed follow-up that caused their demise to the frustration of a pro-BTTHS crowd. It was coach Dennis Tumayan’s time to be congratulated by mentor Mark Belangel whose charges missed so many free throws.

St. John's Institute salvaged third place with an overtime triumph over University of St. La Salle-Integrated School (USLS-IS).

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos topped the girls division over USLS-IS on Saturday with Riverside College and St. Joseph School-La Salle completing the top four.

The Baby Falcons of St. John’s Institute remained the top 12 Under squad beating arch rival USLS-IS also on Saturday.

Collegiate division games will start November. (HGD)
