PROVINCES in Leyte and Samar islands, as well as Bohol still have no electricity, and areas in Cebu, Negros and Panay may suffer occasional power interruptions following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck Visayas.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said in its 11 a.m. Friday advisory, that Thursday's quake caused an outage of power plants in Leyte.
The agency said it is currently conducting aerial and ground patrols to inspect and assess areas affected by the earthquake, which occurred at 4:03 p.m. of July 6.
The NGCP said the Ormoc high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission system and the Ormoc substation sustained damage. A tower along the 138kV Ormoc-Togonan line was found leaning.
Six line teams were mobilized to temporarily restore the line, while another team was sent to Kananga Switchyard, owned by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), to assist in restoration and to assess possible ways of extending power from the Tabango substation to Ormoc substation, NGCP added.
It added that it's Cebu-Leyte submarine cable and the Tabango substation in Leyte continue to transmit power to Leyte V Electric Cooperative Inc. (Leyeco V), which is serving the municipalities of Tabango, San Isidro, and Villaba.
