SANTO TOMAS -- The San Vicente National Bridge was finally opened to the public last Saturday, June 3, after undergoing major repair which led to its closure.
This town’s Mayor Johnny Sambo relayed the good news on Monday to motorists and commuters from Sto. Tomas and Minalin towns who use the bridge on a regular basis.
The San Vicente Bridge is within a national road which is vital for the daily transportation of the two municipalities’ residents, as well as those from Macabebe and Minalin town.
The bridge was closed to public use after a breach was seen on its flooring which called for immediate repair.
During the press conference of Sambo held April 17, he vowed to expedite and finish the construction in 45 days, in time for the opening of classes.
He then stressed that he will personally monitor the ongoing repair to ensure that there will be no delay and to avoid further inconvenience to the public.
And some 45 days after, the San Vicente National Bridge was already opened to light vehicles and can soon be utilized fully by the motoring public.
Sambo told VoxPop Pampanga that workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are just putting some finishing touches and dismantling the structures they built in line with the construction before it can be opened to all types of vehicles.
He also expressed his gratitude to the DPWH First Engineering Office and Fourth District Representative Juan Pablo “Rimpy” Bondoc for providing immediate intervention on the problem.
He also recognized the understanding, cooperation and assistance of residents and other local and barangay officials for the immediate completion of the project.
