ANOTHER stray dog, this time in Cebu City, attacked two persons in Banilad village at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 27.
The dog, believed to be rabid, started biting a shopping mall personnel and a hotel staff, but was bludgeoned with a block of wood by the hotel's security guard after it reportedly attempted to attack other people.
The victims, who suffered wounds in their legs, were identified as Larry John Venida and Haideliza Gela.
They were immediately taken to a hospital to receive anti-rabies shots.
Apas village chief Ramil Ayuman, whom the hotel’s management asked assistance from, said that they have yet to know if the dog had an owner as the mall is within the boundary of villages Banilad, Apas, and Kasambagan.
Personnel from the village have taken the dog's body to the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) for observation.
As part of its preventive measures, Ayuman said they are requiring all dog owners in the village to have their pets registered before the village office.
“The deadline of the registration will be on the first week of March. Those who will violate will be fined with P2,000. We'll ask the DVMF to check,” he told VoxPop Cebu.
Last Thursday, Apas held a massive free anti-rabies vaccination in Sitios Baca, Don Bosco, Anagan, Lower Panalag, Upper Panalag, Middle Level, and Basa.
Ayuman said that out of 2,000 dogs in the village, 340 have already received vaccination.
Out of the 340 dogs, 107 have already been registered to the village, he said.
Earlier this week, 22 persons were bitten by a stray dog in Mandaue City.
